Here comes spring!

It has been quite a long winter in Iowa and across the country, and I'm finally seeing signs of good things to come!  Besides being able to see grass for the first time in months, other good events are "springing" up everywhere:
  1. I presented on Layar with one of my former students at the Annual Iowa Extension and Outreach conference.  It was great to work with Brenda as a colleague and benefit from her expertise with Clover Kids.
  2. I am part of a collaboration between Clover Kids and Reiman Gardens to create an interactive print document on Butterflies.  There is so much energy in our group and the document is already looking amazing.
  3. I was awarded the College of Human Sciences Early Achievement in Teaching Award.  Quite an honor for me with something that I love to do - teach!

Download your own SciEthics Island

After two years in development and testing, it is finally here!  The first SciEthics simulation, TransGen Island, has been released.  Anyone with access to their own OpenSim virtual space can download this oar file  and upload it to their own server.  It comes complete with the following:

  • student handouts
  • faculty guide
  • introductory videos

Go to the www.sciethicsinteractive.com now to download.  Want to know more about the island and the research behind the design?  Watch the YouTube video!

Education On Air Conference

The Google Education On Air Conference today was an impressive lineup of online presentations by educators.

I was lucky enough to be one of the select 10 "hanging out" in the Google+ in Higher Education presentation.  I was so inspired that I started my own page!

Excellence In Action

12/9/2011

Throughout the semester, the president of West Chester University publishes a newsletter for the faculty and staff community.  My project and the new funding from HP (Global Expansion of SciEthics Interactive through the HP Catalyst) was featured in the December issue on page 4. The notable mention in this campus-wide publication is a great honor for me and a testament to the impact of my research on the local community.
