Apps for Early Learners

PictureWheels on the Bus by Duck Duck Moose

Although my children are 1 and 3, they quickly learned how to use my iPod iTouch. I didn't teach them how to use their finger to swipe the screen, or get to pictures, or open an app...but they figured it out.  Considering they were so interested, why not get them engaged in something appropriate? Over the past year, I  download many free and paid apps for them with varied success. Here are their favorites:
  • Knee Bouncers: peek a boo and pretend phone for the very young
  • Duck Duck Moose: from nursery rhymes to basic math, this group of apps is excellent and very interactive.
  • CookieDoodle: Mix cookie dough ingredients then decorate your own cookie
  • Grimm's Rapunzel: 3-D pop up book with interactive elements
  • Build a Word: Based off of the PBS show, Word World
  • Google Earth: A quick answer to those questions like, "Where is China?"
  • Interactive Alphabet: fun ABC game. Limited choices.
  • Toddler Teasers: A series of apps on counting, matching and identifying.  Has an a more basic look (less 3-D), but my daughter loves to pick out the virtual stickers when she gets the correct answer.
